Outsourcing leader practices what it preaches

"Sypol has a good reputation for delivering relevant and engaging training to government departments and commercial organisations. Their trainers are all qualified experts and their support staff are very capable, displaying the same levels of professionalism as Land Securities Trillium's own staff.” Mark Lapper Senior Health & Safety Manager Land Securities Trillium

Choosing Sypol

An example of Land Securities Trillium's approach to outsourcing is its contract with the Department for Work and Pensions for whom it provides facilities management services to approximately 1,500 of its buildings.

Sypol were asked to establish a programme of DSE training to DWP personnel throughout the UK in accordance with EOI rollout timescales and agreed deadlines.

Growing best practice

To cover the 18 month project, Sypol permanently assigned a project manager, with a project mentor providing the necessary input to ensure the quality and consistency of service throughout. Sypol administrators were also provided to co-ordinate the training.

All of the Sypol trainers participating in the project participated in a 'Train the Trainers' course in order to ensure consistency and a high level of awareness of the client's culture and policies.

Following the DSE training, all personnel completed self-assessment checklists which were then reviewed by a Sypol trainer. Where necessary, a follow-up assessment was undertaken by the trainer, and a remedial action plan drawn up. Certificates were also provided for each delegate.

Sypol maintained a database for the duration of the project, providing monthly reports to DWP and LST providing information on agreed outputs on a by region/building and national basis.

In total, 73,000 DWP staff were trained in DSE assessment techniques, bringing the project in on time and to budget.

A continued partnership

Sypol has also delivered a health and safety training programme to DWP staff which ensured that over 50,000 managers were fully aware of their obligations under health and safety legislation and best practice.
