Scaffolding guidance changing
From 1 January 2011 the HSE will no longer acknowledge the British Standard BS5973:1993 as a recognised standard for the design of tube-and-fitting scaffolding structures.

Workers exposed to E.coli by health authority
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) was fined £25,000 on 9 July for exposing its employees to the risk of infection from the potentially deadly E.coli O157 bacteria.

HSE fine construction company
An architect's practice and a construction company involved in a Somerset development have been fined a total of £195,000 by the HSE following a fatality on the site.

Global safety standard for the gas and oil industry?
'Health and Safety News' have reported that In the light of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill tragedy, a safety and health lawyer from the UK has suggested that a global safety standard for the gas and oil industry be put in place. Bond Pearce LLP’s Hilary Ross strongly feels that consistent safety standards can help save lives and protect the environment. The firm operates a global oil and gas division.
