The Health and Safety Offences Act 2008 received Royal Assent on 16 October 2008 and will come into force in January 2009.


The new legislation will increase penalties for those who flout health and safety law, as well as provide courts with greater sentencing powers. The Act will increase the penalties that can be imposed for breaching the health and safety regulations, as well as widen the range of offences for which an individual can be prosecuted.
