Lawrence is one of the UK's foremost authorities on health & safety specialising in developing management systems within customer organisations. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CFIOSH), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health, Member of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene (MFOH) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Manufactures (FRSA).
Lawrence is a member of the HSE Science Strategy Committee and the Health and Safety Expert Panel of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Lawrence is also a Past President of IOSH and was the recipient (jointly) of the 1995 Institution of Civil Engineers medal for Safety in Construction, and in 2005 of the RoSPA Distinguished Service Award. He was also nominated for the Building Working Well Together Outstanding Safety Achievement Award (2005 and 2006).
Lawrence has always focused on providing high level support for Managers and Directors seeking to achieve and maintain world-class health and safety performance. His personal achievements and work are based on the collective effort of Sypol staff - helping modern organisations meet their own aspirations for excellence, so that their health and safety performance contributes to overall business success.
At present he is on secondment as Head of Health and Safety of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), and in his role heads up the health and safety team responsible for ensuring the well-being of thousands of people who are currently working on building the sporting arenas and other infrastructure facilities necessary to deliver the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. His responsibilities also include ensuring safety is considered not only during the building stages of the project but also in Games and Legacy mode, in what is Europe’s largest construction programme and largest housing project.
